We are conducting a one-day event with our overseas partners Green & Spiegel. Mr Stephen Green, the founder, will be joining us to talk about the various Investment Opportunities in Canada and streams that exist currently. We have also invited Mr Stewart Browne founder & CEO of Pycap Venture Capitalists to address the audience on Startups and Investments.

Who Qualifies for a Canada Business Visa?

Canada offers tremendous opportunities for foreigners wanting to do business in the country. Every year, thousands of ambitious people grace our shores and there is certainly no reason why you cannot be among them.

The objective of the Business Immigration Program is to attract investment and employment in the country through the migration of people who have the ability to successfully establish or invest in a business in Canada.

Categories to Business Visas in Canada

It is advised that individuals with business/managerial experience and relatively high net-worth may apply for a Canadian permanent residence under the Canada Business Immigration Program in one of the following four sub-categories:
• Investors
• Entrepreneurs
• PNP Business Programs
• Corporate Immigration

1. Start-Up Visa Investor Program

As an investor when one is looking to immigrate to Canada, the best option available is to apply for the general Start-up Visa Program. One will have to meet the minimum requirements for your application to be successful by being innovative, creating jobs for Canadians and being able to compete internationally.
Requirements for Investors
To qualify for the Start-up Visa, applicants must:
• Run a qualifying business
• Demonstrate intermediate knowledge in both English
• Get a letter of support from a designated institution (Receive a minimum funding commitment of $200,000 CDN from a designated Venture Capital Organization, $75,000 from an approved Angel Investor, or Business Incubator)
• Bring enough money to settle in Canada

2. Entrepreneur Program

Because they create employment opportunities and contribute to the Canadian economy, entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply for this immigration stream. Successful applicants are able to open a business in Canada, as well as gain permanent residence status in the country.

Requirements for Entrepreneurs

To qualify for the Entrepreneur Program, applicants must:
• Establish, purchase or make a substantial investment in a business in Canada within 2 years of landing in Canada which will result in a significant contribution to the economy
• Engage in active and ongoing participation in the management of the business
• Employ at least one Canadian citizen or permanent resident other than the entrepreneur and his dependents.
• To ensure that these conditions are met, entrepreneurs are required to report to immigration officials their progress, on a regular basis within this two year period.

4. Business PNP Programs

There are several business investment avenues through PNP programs across Canada:

Entrepreneur Base Category
Requirements: $600,000 CAD net worth, 3 years experience being a business owner/manager, invest $200,000 & create at least 1 full time job for Canadian citizens or PR.
Entrepreneur Regional Pilot
Requirements: $100,000 investment, personal net worth of $300,000, have minimum 51% ownership & create 1 full time job in the local community.

Entrepreneur pathway
Requirements: Minimum investment of $250,000, networth of $500,000 & have 3 years of work experience as business owner/manager
Farm Investor
Requirements: $300,000 investment, $500,000 net worth, 3 years experience of farm ownership or operation

Entrepreneur
Requirements: Net worth $600,000 & must invest $250,000, 3 years of work experience as business owner/manager

Northwest Territory Business Stream
Requirements: $500,000 net worth (if you want to live outside of Yellowknife then requirement is only $250,000), $300,000 minimum investment (outside yellowknife is only 150k), 3 years of work experience as business owner/manager

Entrepreneur
Requirements: Net worth of $600,000, $150,000 minimum investment, 3 years of work experience as business owner/manager

Entrepreneur
o Requirements: Net worth $800,000 (outside GTA is only $400,000), minimum investment of $600,000 (outside GTA is only $200,000) & must create 2 full time positions (If outside GTA than only 1 full time position)
o If the proposed business is ICT / Digital Communications Sector than net worth can be min. $400,000 and investment min $200,000
Corporate
o Requirements: International corporation must be established for at least 36 months, must be linked to parent corporation abroad and new business in Ontario, primary income source must be from active earned income from the business
o Corporation must make an investment of 5 million dollars to expand into Ontario
o Must create 5 new jobs for Canadian citizens or PR’s for every “key staff” being nominated at the company

  • Business Work Permit Stream
    o Requirements: Net worth $600,000
    o Must get endorsed by the community (Known as “community endorsement”)

Quebec Entrepreneur Program
o Requirements: Net worth $900,000, minimum start-up deposit is $200,000 (In Montreal is $300,000)

Quebec Investor PrograQuebec Investor 
o Currently closed from November 2019 until July 2020
o Requirements: Net assets worth 2 million dollars & must make a 1.2 million, 5-year term investment

Entrepreneur Farm Program
Requirements: Net worth $500,000 (If under 40 than $300,000), agreement cash deposit of $75,000 (Once the agreement finishes you get this money back), 3 years’ experience managing a farm
Entrepreneur Program
Requirements: Net worth $500,000, 3 years of business management or entrepreneurial experience, invest $300,000 in Regina & Saskatoon area (in all other communities only $200,000)

*All of the successful PNP program applicants will get a work permit and will need to invest the monetary amount above within 1-2 years. Once job creation is completed then the applicant can apply for PR*

5. Corporate Immigration

Corporate Immigration is the perfect option for those who have started a business and are looking to expand their business to Canada. This immigration category was specifically designed for large, medium, and small companies that need to transfer their employees seamlessly across borders. Mr. Amber Rana is an advocate/lawyer/ qualified from one of the pioneer law schools in India (ILS) Pune. He is currently heading his own firm Amrana Ventures and two other partners. He is a specialist in the area of Civil Law and Indirect Taxation. Mr. Rana is also a specialist in Women’s rights and laws on sexual abuse of women. He has delivered many talks on the POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) Act with corporates and pro bono for NGOs. Further, Mr. Amber Rana is engaged in providing North American Business Consultancy which includes cross-border business consultancy with Indo Canadian & US businesses. It includes guiding and navigating the clients looking to invest in Canada and US through the compliances and business solutions.

Mr. Amber Rana has extensively worked in the North American market with manufacturers, exporters & with provincial trade commissioners at the high commission of Canada in India. In his law days, he has been awarded numerous times the best researcher award for international moot courts such as the JESSUP Moot competition which is one of the oldest moot court competitions in the world. Mr. Rana has also been a part of corporations and has been associated with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He has a total work experience of over 7 years with the firm. During his stint, he was a part of the Indirect Taxation team and Tax (SME) Subject Matter Expert in the Risk Assurance Services team.
